![]() The writer used Latin as their language of choice and Lia settled in comfortably and began to read. She lifted out a bundle of parchment and sat in a chair by the brightest lamp. They may contain a clue as to who owned the chest. ![]() The parchments intrigued her, having spent many hours with her father in lessons, writing of any kind caught her interest. Lia poked under the clothing and found a number of parchments, an empty inkpot, blank papyrus and a reed pen. A couple of tunics, a pair of boots, pieces of armor and a short sword filled the chest. It brimmed with the belongings of a soldier. ![]() She lit another lamp and gingerly lifted the lid to peek inside. Turning up the lamp she found a wooden chest with Roman letters etched upon it and a family insignia engraved into the wood. A dark bulky shape waited on the floor barely noticeable in the dark. ![]() The captain returned Lia to her room, leaving at the door with a cursory nod. ![]()

Even the twentieth-century existentialists who are well known for their positive atheism (that is, for affirming that there is no God) - Sartre and Camus - actually struggle to extricate their thought from the legacy of Christianity. ![]() Of the main nineteenth-century authors whose ideas prefigure existentialism – Friedrich Nietzsche, Fyodor Dostoevsky, and Soren Kierkegaard – the last two are, explicitly, Christians. In this book chapter I examine the relations between existentialism and atheism, and argue that these are more complicated and multi-faceted than is often thought. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() I really like this synopsis here, I think it doesn’t give much away and I hope it makes you want to pick this book up : Fallon meets Ben, an aspiring novelist, the day before her scheduled cross-country move. From the first page till the last, from the poems (especially the poems) to every words, from the characters to the plots, and everything really. Genre: NA, Romance, Contemporary, Must-read □Īll I can say is, I love this book. Publication: November 10th 2015 by Atria Books I think that is all you should know too before reading it! □ All I knew before picking the book up was that the main characters get to meet each other only once a year and that is on November 9. November 9 is only the second book by Colleen Hoover that I’ve read. A long while ago, I read Ugly Love by Colleen Hoover and it was good, but not so good (in my opinion). ![]() ![]() ![]() At other times my heart broke – for Will, for Tru, and for Jake – and I’d find myself in floods of tears, only to be grinning like an idiot and hugging my kindle a few pages later. ![]() The emotional scenes in this book are amazing! I was buddy reading, and at a particularly intense moment around halfway through, the number of emails flying back and forth with the word “FUUUUUUCK” in them was downright ridiculous! My heart was pounding – I was shocked, I wanted to cheer, I wanted to swoon. ![]() The thing that stands out for me in this story is the way I felt while reading it. Yes, there are moments of stupid but it doesn’t last too long. The issue of ‘the other guy’ is dealt with fairly quickly and through it all they are honest with each other. What I loved about this relationship is that Jake and Tru actually deal with what’s going on between them. Yes, there are the inevitable similarities to Thoughtless, but this book is amazing all on its own. Told from Tru’s POV, the story moves at a great pace, and things develop really quickly. When they are reunited 12 years later, the emotional connection is still there, along with an intense chemistry that doesn’t let up the entire book. Jake Wethers is a heavily tattooed, uber-hot, Alpha rock God, and I absolutely adored him! Tru is the girl who grew up next to him – childhood best friends, they were each other’s first loves, although Jake’s family moved away before anything could happen between them. So awesome, ridiculously swoony and heaps of emotion. ![]() ![]() ANTOINE, aka Ju Ephraime, is the author of numerous bestsellers and award-winning novels, including, I Will Follow: to Eternity and Beyond and her highlander historical series, The Campbell Brothers. Hobbes also analyses the subversive forces - religion, ambition, private conscience - that threaten to destroy the body politic, Leviathan itself, and return us to the state of war. The compact involves giving up some of our natural freedom to a sovereign power which will enforce the laws of peace on all citizens. He shows that a conflict of each against every man can only be avoided by the adoption of a compact to enforce peace. Hobbes argues that human beings are first and foremost concerned with their own individual desires and fears. Permanently challenging, it has found new applications and new refutations in every generation.
